This one-of-a-kind original artwork features collage, paint, and a sculptural assemblage piece. The birch cradled panel is 18"x18"x1.5" and the sides of the panel are also finished, so it's ready to hang.
The background was collaged with hand-blockprinted papers, pieces of a Thai newspaper (sealed for archival protection,) patterned tissue papers, and Japanese Chiyogami (Yuzen) paper. The pink and blue hearts were painted with artist-grade acrylic paints, then accented with texture pastes. The middle layer was made with chipboard, painted in artist-grade paint, then covered with texturized deli paper - all was sealed with artist-grade mediums. The fourth layer is made from pink Indian cotton rag paper, stenciled and detailed with more artist-grade materials.
The top layer is a hand-made sculptural assemblage piece using a wood base, epoxy clay, gold leaf, and more detail texture pastes. The rhinestones are vintage glass (not acrylic,) the center is a vintage glass watch piece that was frosted to obscure the small gold heart drawn inside. Finally, vintage pieces of Turkmen jewelry hang from the bottom of the heart.
"Love" was hand-written on the front with a dimensional paint (artist quality, originally intended for use in faux stained-glass effects,) and the sides have all been finished with collage, paint, and the stenciled word "choose" to complete the title sentiment of the piece from all angles.
