Zhao Gongming
A Taoist god, also called Zhao Lang. The ceramic mask is about 4.25" tall and nearly 1/2" thick at the largest point. The brightly painted face paint and headdress make this a fun figure to include in your artwork. The pearls in the headdress are mounted on metal needles which are firmly attached into the ceramic. The mask comes in its own box and is mounted on a removable panel. If you want to use it in your work, gently peel it away (some of the fabric may come with it.) The box can then be used for another project or decorated to frame the mask. |

Huang Zhong
This character represents a great general from Shu country. He was the last of the Five Tiger Generals and renowned for his military skill. His character was old, but vigorous (hence the white beard and silver eyebrows!) This beautifully decorated mask features a headdress in coral and blue with silver accents (look closely at the sides over his ears - those are dragons!) and the pearls studded across the front are firmly mounted and make a nice dimensional detail. This mask is about 4" tall and 1/2" thick at the largest point. To use, gently remove the mask from the panel (it's glued down but comes off easily,) and you can also use the decorative box. |

CaoBao
This character, in ShiJue array, represents one of the apprentices of Zhao GongMing and was a native of WuYi Mountain. CaoBao is said to be the god of collecting treasure (which might explain why this one is my favorite!) and supposedly died in the HongShui battle. The makeup is colorful and in the YuanBao shape (which is a type of ancient money.) I love the bright yellow and red colors of this mask, and there's nice orange shading on top and there are also little silver details throughout. As with the others, the pearls are mounted on small needles that are firmly embedded into the ceramic. This mask makes a fantastic centerpiece on a mixed media panel! The mask is nearly 4.5" tall, and 0.5" thick at the widest point. |

Guan Yu
This Chinese opera character was the first of the Five Brave Generals of Shu and also Marquis of Han ShouTing. His simple red facial makeup is traditionally applied with the hands and the costume also includes silkworm eyebrows. He's meant to have a majestic look and a military bearing. Note the yellow tassels hanging from the dragons on either side of the headdress. This fabulous piece is nearly 4" long and about 1/2" thick. Gently peel the mask from the backing to use it in your work. The box is also perfect for making a small shadow box or shrine piece. |

Project ideas with Peking Opera masks...
In this mixed media panel, you can see where I took the CaoBao mask and glazed it, then used it as the centerpiece of the artwork. Adding the yellow spike beads really helped set it off and give him a fierce countenance!
