In an effort to help out independent craft stores and also continue to provide access to social distancing-friendly live mixed media classes, I've partnered with Scrapbooking Fairies in Alberta, Canada to bring you a live online workshop offered via private Facebook group.

​​Class was held live on August 22, 2020
We're going to take traditional Artist Trading Cards and turn them into interactive artwork. We'll mix stamps and stencils with paint, collage, and mark marking for a layered background technique and embellishments. The class includes downloadable patterns and three of my hand-drawn labels.
During the live workshop we'll complete one Interactive ATC with its matching pocket. Time permitting, we'll start on a second (but you'll get info and patterns to make at least 3.) I'll also demo a 6" x 8" mixed media piece to show how you can use the same techniques for art journaling, cards, and more.

  • Upon registration and payment (handled by Scrapbooking Fairies,) you will receive a link to join our private Facebook group.
  • Join in, meet, and interact with other students. 
  • The live, 2-hour class will be taught through a Facebook Live video in our private classroom.
  • Work along with me and ask questions via posts and comments.
  • Get printable patterns for three ATC folders as well as a download for three of my hand-drawn labels
  • Learn a fun and easy background technique and explore different ways to use and layer rubber stamps and stencils
  • The video plus questions and comments will be available as a reference to watch or re-watch later for up to 6 months.
  • Take and share photos of your in-progress and finished projects for feedback from me and other class members both during and after class.
Tools:
Adhesives:
  • Matte medium (you can use water if you don't have this - it will work although you'll get a slightly different look.)
  • A good glue stick (I'll be using Avery) or a white or clear glue
  • Optional - Washi tape (I'll use a few different rolls / patterns)
    • Although optional, I highly recommend a few rolls or strips of patterned paper if you don't have washi tape.

​Paper & Substrates:
  • 4-5 pieces of mid to heavy weight letter-sized or A4 cardstock (I used white and kraft, but it's up to you. We'll cover most of it, but the color will show through a bit.)
    • You'll use 2-3 pieces to print out the patterns for your pockets if you choose to use those
    • The other paper should be pre-cut to 2-3/8" x 3-3/8" (sized to fit inside the pockets.) 
    • 1 piece of paper - color of your choice, to print the hand-drawn labels if you want to use them
  • Optional - A few piece of printed acetate or vellum or patterned paper if you want them for openings in your interactive elements.
  • Optional - A few bits of ephemera (IE old stamps, labels, ticket stubs, etc...)
Inks, Paints, Pens, etc...:
  • 2-3 colors of acrylic paints (I'll be using PaperArtsy Fresco Acrylic paints.)
    • You may want more colors if you want different colors on your cards vs. pockets or to make more than one.
  • Ink pads (I'll be using Black and Sepia Archival Inks and StazOn inks. I'll also have a few other colors of Archival Ink that go with my paints, but that's totally optional.)
  • Optional​ - A black pen for journaling and mark making.
  • Optional - Pens, markers, and / or colored pencils for coloring (you can use a mix of types or whatever you have or nothing at all, but I'll be using Posca paint pens, colored pencils, and possibly a few other markers or fine line pens.)
    • If you use colored pencils, I also recommend a blending pencil.
  • Optional - A black marker, paint pen, etc... for mark making and / or writing (I'm using black acrylic ink in a Fineline applicator and / or a black Posca paint marker.)

Miscellaneous:
  • Baby wipes
  • Paper towels
Scrapbooking Fairies carries many class supplies that are not listed in their online store as well as a category with many of my products (some not yet online.) If you're local, their shop is open! (Check first for modified store hours.) You can also call them to see if they have what you need and can arrange shipment.
Technical Requirements:
  • You must have a Facebook account - it's the only way we can admit you to the private Facebook classroom
  • Your computer or device should be capable of viewing video with a strong enough internet connection to stream the lesson
  • Check ahead of time to ensure that you can hear and see videos on Facebook (you usually need to both click into a live video and unmute it in order to hear and read and add comments.)
  • I highly recommend that if you don't already have it, that you download the Facebook app on your phone or device and get logged in and set up. This will make it so you can easily take in-progress photos to post for feedback directly from the app.
Administrative Details & Class Policies:
  • Unfortunately, because this is an online class where you can view the content and have full access even if you miss the livestream (which will be archived in the group,) there are no cancellations or refunds.
  • Since this is an online class, we just want to make sure it's clear that you'll be responsible for providing all of your own supplies (please see the supply list above.) I've tried to give lots of options and alternatives so that you can pull from your stash wherever possible. Scrapbooking Fairies also has many of the supplies available in their shop so if you have something you need or see something that you want to try, I hope you'll help support the store. (And contact the shop if you need something that isn't linked - they may have it!)
FAQ:
Q: How long will the Facebook group be available after the Live video is over?
A: The group will remain open for you to re-watch the video and ask questions for 6 months after the date of the live class (Feb. 22, 2021.)

Q: Can I register after the live class is over?
A: We will be keeping the classroom open for a while after the Live, so you will be able to sign up later, but without the live interaction. The length of time additional registrations will be taken is TBD, but note that the group will close on February 22, 2021.

Q: When will I get access to the Facebook group?
A: Please allow 24-48 hours for Scrapbooking Fairies to process your registration and send you a group invitation.
