An Online Mixed Media Workshop

In an effort to help out independent craft stores and to provide access to mixed media classes with no travel required, I've partnered with Papercraft Clubhouse in Westbrook, CT to bring you an online workshop offered via private Facebook group.

Pocketful of People is an on-demand online class where we explore combining face stamps or images with other stamps, stencils, and cut-out shapes to create fantastically whimsical art dolls. These quirky paper people can then live in a pocket in your art journal, on a canvas or on another substrate. (Or you can skip the pocket and just make art dolls, or even totems or a Pocketful of Posies!) ​

Through the course of the bonus video demo (previously recorded in a Facebook Live) you'll learn about shape and form and how to select and create images for your projects. You'll also get lots of ideas and alternatives for other faces or motifs. At the end of both videos, you'll have a fun and whimsical art doll and all of the tools and techniques to create a whole tribe of them.

Tools:

• Stamps or images to use as the faces or focal points for your art dolls or totems, etc...
  • (I used my EGL09 "Tribal Faces" stamp set from PaperArtsy  and also shared several options and alternatives in the group.)
• Stamps and / or stencils in a variety of shapes and motifs to create your parts 
  • I gave options and talked about ways to look at your tools in a new way to find great parts for your project. 
  • You can also create your own art parts which is also discussed in the class videos.
  • For shapes aside from faces, I used my stamps from PaperArtsy plus a few other designs and my stencils from StencilGirl.
• Scissors
• Optional - Heat gun and teflon mat if you plan to heat emboss.

​Paper & Substrates:

• A variety of cardstock or paper, gelli prints, painted papers, collage papers, patterned papers, etc... to use for creating the parts for your art dolls and for your pocket. We'll talk about creating some of these types of papers in the bonus video.

• An art journal, heavy-weight paper, canvas, etc... as your substrate if you plan to make the pocket for your art dolls.

Adhesives:

• Adhesive for assembling your dolls
  • (I used an Avery glue stick, PVA glue in a Fineline bottle, and a white glue like Sobo or Tacky Glue.)

Inks, Paints, Pens, etc...:

• Ink Pads (I will be using a mix of VersaFine Clair pigment inks, Archival Inks, and some dye ink pads. You'll probably want pigment if you plan to emboss.)
• Pens, markers, watercolors, water-soluble crayons or pencils... etc... any or all of these supplies to color some of the parts for your project.
• Pens for mark making (I use black plus white and gold gel pens and a few paint pens like Posca.)
• Optional -  Paints (I used PaperArtsy Fresco Acrylic Paints) if you want to make painted papers specifically for this project. No set colors or brand - choose what you want for your color palette.​

Embellishments:

• Optional - Embossing powder if you want to emboss any of your images. (I used my Boho Blends embossing powders from Emerald Creek.)

Miscellaneous: 

• Baby wipes, paper towels, pencil, and eraser

Technical Requirements:

• You must have a Facebook account - it's the only way we can admit you to the private Facebook classroom
• Your computer or device should be capable of viewing video with a strong enough internet connection to stream the lesson
• Check ahead of time to ensure that you can hear and see videos on Facebook (you usually need to both click into a live video and unmute it in order to hear and read and add comments.)
• I highly recommend that if you don't already have it, that you download the Facebook app on your phone or device and get logged in and set up. This will make it so you can easily take in-progress photos to post for feedback directly from the app.

Administrative Details & Class Policies:

• Unfortunately, because this is an online class where you can view the content and have full access even if you miss the livestream (which will be archived in the group,) there are no cancellations or refunds.
• Since this is an online class, we just want to make sure it's clear that you'll be responsible for providing all of your own supplies (please see the supply list above.) I've tried to give lots of options and alternatives so that you can pull from your stash wherever possible. Papercraft Clubhouse also has many of the supplies available in their shop so if you have something you need or see something that you want to try, I hope you'll help support the store. (And contact the shop if you need something that isn't linked - they may have it!)

FAQ:
Q: How long will the Facebook group be available after the Live video is over?
A: The group will remain open indefinitely so you can re-watch the videos, ask questions, and share.

Q: When will I get access to the Facebook group?
A: Please allow 24-48 hours for Papercraft Clubhouse to process your registration and send you a group invitation. Please contact the shop if you have any questions about class access.

Q: Where do we find the coupon code?
A: The coupon code is in the Facebook group - look under the admin posts. It also will be pinned as an announcement at the top of the page.

​Q: Can I use the coupon more than once?
A: This is a one-time use code, but note that the shop also offers free shipping for orders over $75 and you get that without a coupon.
Please do not share - these coupons are exclusive to class members and can only be used once per person. The offer is good through December 31, 2021.

Q: Can I place a shop order from Papercraft Clubhouse if I live outside of the US?
A: The shop will ship internationally (contact them first,) but it's expensive and shipping times can't be guaranteed. If needed, we can help point you to other stockists closer to you to help you find supplies.
