STICK, STAMP, PAINT.

A Live Online Mixed Media Workshop
Picture
In an effort to help out independent craft stores and also continue to provide access to social distancing-friendly live mixed media classes, I've partnered with Country View Crafts in Bedfordshire, England to bring you a Live Online workshop offered via private Facebook group.
Picture
Class was held live on Saturday, June 6, 2020 - registration is now closed.
The live workshop, Stick, Stamp, Paint., will be as much like an in person class as possible but with the added advantages of an online forum.

  • Upon registration and payment (handled by Country View Crafts,) you will receive a link to join our private Facebook group
  • You can join in and meet and interact with other students prior to the start of class
  • The class itself will be taught through a Facebook Live video hosted only in the private group
  • Work along with me, react, and ask questions during the demo via comments
  • The video plus questions and comments will be available as a reference to re-watch later for up to 6 months.
  • Take and share photos of your in-progress and finished projects for feedback from me and other class members both during and after class
Class Description:
In this live, 2-hour online class we'll combine inks, collage, rubber stamps, paint, and mark making to create a piece of layered mixed media artwork. We'll start with a quick background and then use our stamps, paints, and make marks to build up layers and create lovely compositions using a variety of fun and easy techniques.
Class Cost: £15 / ~$19US
(Please note that the shipping fee will be refunded.)

Student Supply List:
Tools:
  • Paint brushes (I use a size 4 Filbert or Oval wash and a size 2 Filbert or round for details, but something about 1/2" or 1cm and a detail brush will work.)
  • Rubber stamps  (I'll be using my stamps from PaperArtsy - a combination of larger designs with smaller patterns to layer on the design.)
  • Acrylic blocks if using unmounted stamps
  • Scissors
  • Heat gun

Adhesives:
  • A good glue stick (I use Avery) or matte medium and a brush to apply

Paper & Substrates:
  • 1 sheet heavy weight watercolor paper, cardstock, or similar (my samples are 6" x 8" or ~15x20 cm on cotton rag watercolor paper.) You can go smaller or larger or even work in your art journal.
  • 5 - 10 pieces of book paper, gelli prints, patterned paper, etc... in the same color family (good sized pieces - no smaller than 2" x 3" / 5x7 cm but no larger than 8" x 10" or 20x25 cm. We'll be cutting or tearing them.)
  • Scrap paper (copy or printer paper is great)

Inks, Paints, Pens, etc...
  • 1 - 2 colors of acrylic paint that blend well together and contrast with your collage papers (I'll be using PaperArtsy Fresco Acrylic Paints.)
  • 2 - 3 ink sprays like iZink, Distress Spray Stain, or Distress Oxide sprays (if you don't have sprays, you can use diluted paint.)
  • Ink Pads (I will be using a black pigment ink pad, but Archival Ink or dye ink is fine. You'll probably want pigment if you plan to emboss.)
  • Pens for mark making (I use black plus white and gold gel pens.)

Miscellaneous:
  • Baby wipes

Optional Tools & Supplies:
  • 1-2 colors of Water-soluble crayons or pencils that go with the theme for your piece (IE Distress Crayons, Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks, Marabu Crayons, or similar.
  • Embossing powder (I'm using my Wrought Iron Boho Blends embossing powder, but another black or a different dark color is great.)
  • A heat-resistant mat and a pigment or embossing ink pad for embossing if you plan to do so
  • Spray bottle full of water (if using Distress Oxide spray inks.)

Administrative & Technical Details and FAQ
Technical Requirements:
  • You must have a Facebook account - it's the only way we can admit you to the private Facebook classroom
  • Your computer or device should be capable of viewing video with a strong enough internet connection to stream the lesson
  • Check ahead of time to ensure that you can hear and see videos on Facebook (you usually need to both click into a live video and unmute it in order to hear and read and add comments.)
  • I highly recommend that if you don't already have it, that you download the Facebook app on your phone or device and get logged in and set up. This will make it so you can easily take in-progress photos to post for feedback directly from the app.
Administrative Details & Class Policies:
  • Unfortunately, because this is an online class where you can view the content and have full access even if you miss the livestream (which will be archived in the group,) there are no cancellations or refunds.
  • Since this is an online class, we just want to make sure it's clear that you'll be responsible for providing all of your own supplies (please see the supply list above.) I've tried to give lots of options and alternatives so that you can pull from your stash wherever possible. Country View Crafts also has most of the supplies available in their shop so if you have something you need or see something that you want to try, I hope you'll help support the store. (And contact the shop if you need something that isn't linked - they may have it!)
FAQ:
Q: How long will the Facebook group be available after the Live video is over?
A: The group will remain open for you to re-watch the video and ask questions for 6 months after the date of the live class (Dec. 6, 2020.)

Q: Can I register after the live class is over?
A: We will be keeping the classroom open for a while after the Live, so you will be able to sign up later, but without the live interaction. The length of time additional registrations will be taken is TBD, but note that the group will close on December 6, 2020.

Q: When will I get access to the Facebook group?
A: Please allow 24-48 hours for Country view Crafts to process your registration and send you a group invitation.

Q: It looks like it's charging me shipping when I sign up for the class. Will that be refunded?
A: Yes. The shop website can't support selling an item without a shipping fee, but that will be refunded around the same time you're added to the Facebook group.

Q: Can I place a shop order from Country View Crafts if I live outside of the UK?
A: Yes - the shop will ship internationally.
