This fun and whimsical bird sculpture, which I've named the Bluebird of Happiness, is made from papier mache, epxoy clay, and wood over an aluminum armature. The bird and shoes were completely hand-sculpted, and the hand-painted legs are made from wood dowels. The legs are anchored into the wood base (which is balsa wood,) and then secured with the clay shoes which were sculpted around the joins.
All of the paints are light-fast and artist quality, and the bird has been accented with vintage sequins along the wings and feathers on his crown - those touches have been secured with a professional grade polymer to ensure that they don't fall off. His eyes are vintage rhinestones. I've also added my signature global eclectic touch with a beautiful jeweled trim from India wrapped around the base of the tail.
The sculpture measures just over 8" tall from the bottom of the base to the top of the feathers, and it's about 6" long from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail.
