What's inside...
Printed Papers
This pack comes with four papers for you to use in your work. The first is a hand-printed piece which measures 6"x9" and was printed using a vintage woodblock from Tibet,* as well as a small motif from India - just to make it pretty. This was printed on a piece of Japanese Dragon Cloud rice paper. You'll also get two sheets of printed paper from China - one with cherry blossoms on a kraft background, and one with embossed characters on a lightweight cardstock (these both measure about 5"x7.") You will also receive a sheet of Japanese paper, screen-printed with black on gold, featuring illustrations and calligraphy. (Note that this paper came from the manufacturer folded, but the crease lines aren't very noticeable, so I decided to go ahead and use it. Please be aware, however, that your piece will likely have a crease mark.) *A note about my hand-printed papers... many of my blocks are retired from a previous life in textile printing and have worn or missing elements. These prints will not be perfect - there will be lighter areas, small missing bits of the design, etc..., but I think it just gives it more character. |
Jacquard Ribbons
Your Happy Pack will come with two one-foot lengths of vintage jacquard ribbons with Asian-themed designs. The first ribbon has calligraphy characters interspersed with dragons on a black background and measures about 1-3/4" wide. The second ribbon has a traditional Chinese motif woven in red silk threads on a black background and measures about 1-1/4" wide. (Note that as jacquard ribbon frays at the cut points, I've cut a bit more than one foot so that you'll have a solid 12" of usable ribbon.) |
Embellishments
I love the embellishments in this pack - they definitely make me happy!
You'll receive three replica Chinese coins (they have characters on the front and dragons on the back.) These are so fun for adding dimension to a mixed media panel, or for working into a shadow box or assemblage piece. You can even sew them onto a textile project if desired!
You'll also receive a sheet of Joss paper - this is traditionally burned as offerings in veneration of deceased ancestors, or at funerals to ensure blessings in the next life. I like using the gold foiled elements and the characters (which are usually for wealth, prosperity, and happiness,) as collage material. These papers are made from bamboo and are very thin, making them excellent for this type of project!
Finally, your pack will include one traditional papercut with a Chinese Zodiac theme. I found and fell in love with this craft during my first trip to China back in 2008, and I love adding them to my artwork! (I apply these with matte medium, but you need to be careful - the thin rice paper will tear very easily, and the red dye is not colorfast. It's worth the effort, though!)

Chinese Silk Pouches
This pack includes a fun rectangular pouch from China. It was advertised as silk (my guess is that it's actually polyester, although I'm no expert,) but regardless, I love the texture and patterns of this lovely fabric. The zippered pouch as accented with a matching tassel and a tiny replica coin, and the inside of the pouch is lined with a coordinating solid silky fabric. I love to use these to hold jewelry when I'm traveling, to use as gift bags, or to hold things like mints, headache pills, etc... that I can throw in my purse to keep things easy to find and well organized. Of course, you can also stitch on it, or add it into your projects as is, or by using the fabric and tassel in a whole new way! |
