I love to wear statement jewelry and this piece, with its mix of vibrant colors, texture, handmade elements, and the addition of a few antique is something I would personally wear. It was created as a sample for my Make a Statement live online class.
This particular necklace features one of my handmade fabric "obi" beads made from vintage, hand-dyed fabric. The pendant is handmade from wood and embossing powder (melted and stamped for texture and subtle pattern)and then layered with Czech glass beads and semi-precious gemstone chips (including some pyrite sand,) and is toped with a replica Chinese coin and a vintage rhinestone. The other components of the necklace feature African recycled glass, Dogon trade beads (also referred to as Dutch Donuts,) and Indian glass beads. Dangling from the pendant is another bronze Dogon bead mixed with African recycled glass and a floral patterned and lightly gold foiled bead from my stash as well as an antique brass hamsa charm. The "chain" is recycled sari silk with a brass toggle closure.
The sari ribbon "chain" is 16" and the pendant drop is 10."
