Mixed Media Statement Necklace - Orange, Gold, & Turquoise
This mixed media necklace combines fabric, beads, vintage pieces, and brass findings for a one-of-a-kind statement choker necklace. From the handmade fabric bead to the handblown glass disc and inlaid brass pendant, it's sure to start conversations wherever you go!
This mixed media statement necklace is a choker style with an extra-long pendant drop filled with handmade, vintage, and globally sourced elements. I made some of the components as demos in my Make a Statement live online class and then had the great opportunity to complete it to be used in a feature article in the Winter 2022 issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine (See the photo for a peek into the magazine.)
This necklace features one of my handmade fabric "obi" beads made from Batik fabric and wrapped in silk and Indian goldwork thread. The pendant tray is an Ice Resin Runic bezel with a hand-blown glass disk in the center layered with an African brass bead and a vintage rhinestone and surrounded with a raku ceramic Hamsa bead and semi-precious gemstone chips (including some pyrite sand.) The top section is a brass frame finding layered with vintage fabric and a vintage jewelry piece that I re-set with rhinestones (although there are a few stones missing from the flowers.) The connecting beads are a mix of Indonesian, African recycled glass, and amber colored Dogon (Dutch Donut) trade beads as well as brass spacers. I finished the pendant with a long brass spike that's inlaid on two sides with semi-precious stones. The "chain" is recycled sari silk with a brass toggle closure.
The "chain" is 12" (it's a choker,) but the pendant drop is 13."
