I love the different boho-style Medicine bags or shaman bags / pouches that I see online and decided to see if I could make some of my own that really reflected my style. I created the patterns for my Medicine Pouches as part of my Make a Statement live online class and have made a few more since teaching it. I have one that I wear sometimes that always gets compliments and great comments - they're great to wear with a t-shirt and jeans, caftans... wherever you want a colorful boho touch to accessorize your outfit.
The pouch on this necklace is handmade and the base pocket is made up of batiked fabric from Thailand, vintage Kantha from India, and the pocket on the back is an embellished and embroidered organza from India. The front is embellished with a piece of vintage Thai fabric topped with original beaded embroidery (the pattern is one of my rubber stamp designs.) I've embellished it with Indian mirrored trim and dangling from the bottom is part of a vintage bracelet (chain and dangles are plastic.) The "bail" that attaches to the chain is an antique brass dragonfly which is attached to the pouch with deliberately visible stitches. The chain is antique brass links interspersed with small flower charms. I've added antique brass spacer beads, a ceramic flower bead, and then beaded segments with red vintage African glass and domestic glass beads. The closure is one of my favorites - a bird whose tail opens and closes the loop like a large lobster clasp.
The chain is 25" and the pouch drops another 6-1/4."
