I love Fineline applicators and use them frequently with acrylic inks and high flow / thinned paints and I was thrilled to find that they also make Fineline applicators filled with masking fluid. These applicator bottles feature a stainless steel tip for precise application of masking fluid and the unique Cap/Wire system is non-clogging and air-tight. The package contains a 1.25oz (37.5 ml) bottle of masking fluid with a 20 gauge (.5mm) tip and one separate cap for storage. The bottle comes capped with the dispenser tip separate - assemble it when you're ready. Also when re-inserting the cap into the tube for storage after use, just be sure that the wire goes inside the dispenser. Go slowly and carefully and don't force it or it will bend the wire, but generally I find that these work beautifully to keep the tip clog free... even if I have to put on my readers to make sure I get it back together. (If it does clog, I keep some 22 or 24 gauge wire handy to just do a quick unclogging.)
Masking fluid itself (also called frisket) is great for masking off areas of your paper that you want to keep white (or the original color) while you paint over top - usually with watercolor or gouache. You put the masking fluid down and let it dry, then paint over top. Once your painting is dry you gently rub the frisket back off (a gummed eraser is good for this.) It's best not to wait too long or removing the masking fluid can be more likely to peel back the paper. I love these Fineline bottles because of how nicely detailed you can get... they're great if you want to do something like a wrinkle or the vein of a leaf.
