Translucent Art Journal

Description:
In this class we'll learn how to create translucent papers for use in art journals and mixed media using my faux resin paper technique. We'll turn those papers into a mini accordion art journal with beautiful translucent window pages, and then I'll share a few of my favorite background techniques using paint, stencils, heat embossing, and stamps; you'll use whatever colors, patterns, and motifs that speak to you as you work on your book. At the end of the day, you should have a bound book with several backgrounds ready for journaling!

Students Should Bring:

• A craft mat, baby wipes, scissors, water cup, pencil, and ruler
• Matte medium and gesso with brushes or sponges to apply
• A few stencils and stamps (mainly background images and designs)
• Acrylic paint - I recommend 2-3 shades of a few different colors (ie light, regular, and dark blue) or paints to mix different shades, as well as gold and / or bronze.
• Cheap bristle paint brushes (round tip, a few different sizes)
• Paintbrushes (I recommend 1" flat or angled, 1/2" flat, and a detail brush.)
• Masking tape (get the good stuff like ProTape or Scotch - not anything you'd find at the dollar store.)
• A small selection of collage papers and ephemera (gelli prints are great for this.) Fabric scraps work too!
• Brushes / sponges for stenciling
• Permanent Ink pads and applicators (I recommend brown and black Staz-On, and I like the Ranger mini sponge applicators)

Optional:

• Heat gun
• Washi tape
• Teflon craft mat or a craft dedicated silicon baking mat (only if you already have one - no need to buy)

Teacher will provide:

• Paper for journal
• Mediums and papers to make our translucent pages
• Some papers and embellishments to share
• Some stencils and stamps to share
