I love to use embossing powder in my mixed media work, as well as in art journaling and to make cards, etc... You can use it with stamps or stencils, or you can draw with a pigment or embossing ink and add texture. I also love to use it with my acrylic mediums. There are so many applications - embossing powder is a staple in my studio!
Embossing powder is such a versatile and fun product to use, both in mixed media artwork and in paper crafts. Emerald Creek embossing powder is one of my absolute favorites to use in my work - I find that it melts a bit faster than most of the brands I use, and the colors and blends are unique and give wonderful effects. Plus, I love supporting a small business run by great people who put out a fabulous product!
You can use embossing powders with stamps and pigment inks, and I love to use them with my stencils - simply stencil with pigment ink and then add the powder and heat emboss, the same as you would with a stamped image. Try using a VersaMarker watermark pen or embossing pen to draw your own motifs and images and emboss those too!
Of course, one of my absolute favorite ways to use embossing powder is with my acrylic mediums. You can sprinkle the powder on top of your mediums while they're still wet. Then, you can either heat emboss with the medium wet - this will bubble the medium and give you a really cool effect (just be careful of fumes and don't heat it so long that it starts to smoke!) or you can let the medium dry and then emboss it later.
*Please note - many of the powders from Emerald Creek are special artisan blends that are hand-dyed in small batches. As a result, you may see some slight variations between batches.

Champagne - $4.95 / 20 gr jar
This is a "classic" powder, which is a nice, fine texture and is good for details. The color is gold with a bit of a gray undertone - very similar in appearance to its namesake with a lovely metallic sheen. |
Mirror Platinum - $4.95 / 20 gr jar
Also a classic powder - fine and good for detailed designs. It's hard to pick up the mirror sheen of this powder in photos, but it's a gorgeous, reflective platinum and melts with smooth coverage. |
Mercury Rising - $5.95 / 20 gr jar
This is an Allure powder, which is a specialty blend. It looks black in the jar but when melted, turns a beautiful metallic gray with darker undertones. |
Enhanced Gold Pearl - $4.95 / 20 gr jar. This lovely classic powder melts to a bit more of a yellow color than the other metallic golds, and has a beautiful pearlescent finish. Smooth finish and good for details.

Mirror Gold - $4.95 / 20 gr jar
A beautiful, fine powder that melts to a smooth metallic gold finish. It truly does have a reflective look to it! |
Weathered Wood - $5.95 / 20 gr jar
This specially blended Allure powder melts to a speckled finish with different shades of brown and cream - the exact colors of old wood. |
Salted Navy - $5.95 / 20 gr jar
This Allure blend has a navy blue base "salted" with white. It has an almost enameled look when melted and gives the appearance of fabulous texture. |
Salted Raven - $5.95 / 20 gr jar
Similar to Salted Navy, this Allure blend has a black base speckled with white and an enamel-like finish. |
Cobalt - $4.95 / 20 gr jar
This is a classic powder, good for detailed images. It melts smoothly to a beautiful, solid cobalt blue. |
Granite Grey - $4.95 / 20 gr jar
This fine "classic" powder is a beautiful dark gray, and has a smooth enamel-like finish when melted. |
Iron Stone Red - $4.95 / 20 gr jar
A classic powder, it's excellent for detailed work. The color is very similar to a red iron oxide - earthy and beautiful with a smooth finish. |
Oil Rubbed Bronze - $5.95 / 20 gr jar
An "Allure" specialty powder, this blend melts to a beautiful, shiny grayish black with hints of bronze peeking through. One of my favorite embossing powders! |
Slicked Smoke - $5.95 / 20 gr jar
This Allure powder mixes a fine neutral gray with larger, darker granules so that when melted, it has the appearance of oil floating on top of a lighter substance. A very cool effect! |
|
Kettle Copper - $4.95 / 20 gr jar. A beautiful, pearlescent copper, this powder melts to a smooth enamel finish, great for detail. It's a gorgeous copper color, reminiscent of copper pots hanging in a high-end kitchen.
|
Hammered Metal - $5.95 / 20 gr jar. Another of my favorite blends, this chunky powder blend has a mix of black, silver, and clear and melts to a beautiful smooth and glossy finish. It spreads a bit so it's not meant for super-fine details, but still holds its shape very well when melted.
|
Midnight Sky - $5.95 / 20 gr jar. A beautiful, deep blue, it appears almost black depending on how the light hits it. This lovely powder is flecked with sparkling silver glitter, melts to a smooth sheen, and holds details beautifully.
|
Northern Lights - $5.95 / 20 gr jar. A beautiful mix of blues and greens, this powder really does look like the Northern Lights! It melts to a smooth, lightly pearlescent enamel, and is perfect for more detailed designs.
|
Fractured Ice - $5.95 / 20 gr jar.
This semi-translucent powder has chunks of darker colors flecked throughout a thick, clear enamel that really looks like ice! The image on the left was embossed over gold ink so you can see how the color can show through... or use a clear embossing ink as in the sample on the right. |
Cool Lagoon - $4.95 / 20 gr jar.
This classic embossing powder is the perfect beachy, tropical shade of green - a bit of a blue tint, but not quite enough to make it teal. It melts to a smooth enamel and takes details well. |
Steel Sapphire - $4.95 / 20 gr jar.
This deep sapphire blue powder is perfect for adding darker details to your work when you don't want to use black. It melts to a smooth enamel finish and works well for detailed images. |
