Boho Art Journaling with Stencils & Stamps

Description:
In this fun and technique-packed half-day class, we'll explore some different ways to use stencils and stamps to make our own collage papers and an art journal background, then we'll mix our hand-printed papers with other paper, ephemera, fabric, and more to make collaged shapes for a page in our journals.

"Boho isn't my thing," you say? No worries! You can adapt the techniques to your own style. You can also use a panel, canvas, or other substrate instead of an art journal if you prefer.

Students should bring:

A basic mixed media kit (gesso, craft mat, water cup, baby wipes, scissors, pen and pencil, paper towels.)
Matte medium
Several colors of acrylic paint and paint brushes (1" and 1/2" flat, and a detail brush)
Glue brushes or other tools to apply gesso and matte medium
Gel medium (regular or heavy,) or glue (Yes! glue, PVA, Tacky Glue, etc...)
A few colors of permanent stamp pads (I prefer Staz-On) plus black and brown
Sponges and / or brushes for stenciling with both ink and paint (I like the long Dina Wakley bristle brushes for paint and Tim Holtz Mini Blending Tools for ink)
A few of your favorite stencils and stamps (more textural and background styles will work best)
A selection of patterned paper and / or collage papers and ephemera
Your art journal, or another substrate of your choice (you could bring a panel, canvas, paper, etc... I recommend around 9" x 12" - my sample pages are 11" x 11.")

Optional:

Heat tool
Glue stick and other adhesives you regularly use (my preferred glue stick is Avery)
A pen that will write on paint
Paint pens (I use a Pen-Touch Gold pen frequently - 2mm and 4mm tips)
Washi tape
Fabric, ribbons or trims, wire, sequins, jewels, or other embellishments
Any other mark making tools or mediums you want to use on your project

Teacher will provide:

Options for your collage shapes
Background stamps and stencils to share
Deli paper for making our own patterned papers
A selection of collage elements and embellishments to use
