Gwen's Essentials - Sari Ribbon from Darn Good Yarn
11.95 14.95 $11.95 - $14.95
Sari yarn and ribbon is definitely an essential for me... I love the way you can use it to quickly and easily add color, texture, and a hint of the exotic to any project - mixed media, ATCs, assemblage, handmade cards... it's beautiful, versatile, and a studio staple!
Sari ribbon and yarn from Darn Good Yarn is made primarily from upcycled saris - they're Fair Trade products made by hand by talented women in India and Nepal. These artisans are given a unique opportunity to work at home and support their families while upcycling materials into something new and beautiful that we can now bring into our own work! How can you not love supporting a cause like that? Especially when the products themselves are so fabulous and versatile?

Finished Edge Sari Ribbon - $12.95 per skein
This beautiful silk ribbon comes in a colorway called "At the Bahamas" which features stripes of bold, vibrant jewel tones. However, instead of a raw edge like you find on the other ribbons, it is folded and stitched closed on one side so you get a finished look. Each unique piece of silk fabric in this yarn is reclaimed from a textile factory in India and then cut and sewn.
The skeins are about 38 yards in length and the makeup is 80% silk and 20% viscose.
Twisted Sister Hand-Spun Sari Yarn - $13.95 per skein
It's hard to see from the photos exactly how cool this chunky sari yarn really is. It's made from recycled silk that has been hand-spun in India, and each skein weighs in at 100 grams.
I can picture the color and texture of this yarn working for textile projects, as well as for texture, color, and dimension in assemblage, mixed media, and even for making handmade books!
Istanbul Sparkle Silk Sari Ribbon - $13.95 per skein
This yarn is full of bright colors and patterns of upcycled sari silk and, as its name suggests, there's a bit of sparkle in this bundle! Look for sequins, metallic threads, and other shiny goodness. Each skein is 100gr and about 30 yards in length.
Block Printed Handmade Sari Silk Ribbon - $13.95 per skein
This lovely ribbon is made from reclaimed sari silk and has been block printed by hand. Each skein weighs about 100g and contains 50 yards of ribbon. While I love this in mixed media, you can use it for crazy quilting, knitting and crochet, even for gift wrapping!
Your choice of teal, purple, or red.
Handmade Newspaper Yarn - $13.95 per skein
I'm enthralled with this product! I always love it when you can upcycle something, but this is a whole new level... made in India, newspapers are hand twisted into cording and wound on a plastic bobbin. You get 45 yards, and the bonus of having a cool way to add foreign text into your work! You can spray it with a shellac, use gel medium, or your favorite finish.
Sari Ribbon Cording - $11.95 per skein
This fabulous ribbon / yarn is made from silk sari ribbon that has then been wrapped with metallic thread to make it into a cord, giving it the texture and feel of silk yarn. Each skein contains about 38 yards, and can be used for knitting, crochet, textile arts, as well as for mixed media and paper crafts!
