I love soft (chalk) pastels and use them often, especially for portraits or when working on dark backgrounds. These are great introductory sets if you want to start exploring the world of pastels without a big financial commitment. Try them with black paper to really see the colors pop! They're great for traditional pastel work, mixed media, layering, and smudging / blending. You can also use them with a wet paintbrush to create a totally different look and application.
