These pencils with a water-soluble core are colored pencils and watercolors in one. You can use them dry on dry paper like regular colored pencils. Use them dry on wet paper for cool effects, use them wet on wet paper or wet on dry paper for more traditional watercolor techniques. You can also color with dry pencils on dry paper and then go back with a wet paintbrush or water brush to activate and spread the color. These are fun, versatile, and since they're from Derwent, you also know that they're great quality with vibrant pigmentation.
I love regular watercolors, but these pencils are perfect when you want to color smaller areas like rubber stamp or stencil designs and then use a waterbrush to give a watercolor look. You can also use your wet brush and touch it to the nib of the pencil to pick up the color and paint with it.
